The Orioles trimmed their Spring Roster by four on Wednesday. They assisgned RHPs Willie Eyre, John Link, Miguel Socolovich and Oscar Villarreal to their minor league camp. This brings their spring roster to 43.
Last season, Eyre came to the Orioles organization in July when he signed a minor league contract. He only appeared in three games but picked up a win in 3.1 innings. Eyre is a 33-year old RHP who was drafted by Minnesota in the 23rd round of the 1999 First-Year Player Draft.
John Link signed a minor league contract with the Orioles on December 16th. He spent 2011 with the Los Angeles Dodgers Triple-A team Alburquerque Isotopes. He was used mostly as a reliever, appearing in 43 games with only one start. He led the team in saves with 11. He was 2-2 with a 4.24 ERA in 68 innings. He struckout 63 and walked 32.
Miguel Socolovich spent last season with the Chicago White Sox Triple-A Affiliate Charlotte Knights. He went 3-2 with a 3.94 ERA. He appeared in 29 games. He pitched 48 innings, striking out 63 adn walking 25 batters.
Relieft pitcher Oscar Villarreal signed a minor league deal with the Orioles on January. Villarreal pitched in the Mexican League in 2011 going 0-4 with a 2.80 ERA with 18 saves.
