o Endy Chavez had a great day at the plate and further solidified his role as the leadoff hitter. In the first, he hit a hard liner to short, which his speed was easily able to outrun the throw. This allowed him to advance to second on the walk to Wilson Betemit. He scored the first run after Adam Jones' short single to right. His speed got him around to home just barely crossing the plate before the tag. In his second at bat, Chavez would draw a walk that would lead to the second run for the Orioles. J.J.Hardy hit a single that veteran Omar Vizquel tipped off his glove, and Chavez's speed would get him to third allowing the sacrifice fly from Betemit. Chavez continues his great spring with the Orioles as they hope the journeyman's success will continue with their club.
o Chavez did barely miss a catch in right that seemed like he had a chance to get, and possibly he would have made the dive in a full season game. That runner eventually advanced to score in the second inning.
o RHP Luis Ayala in relief of Hunter threw a 1-2-3 inning, and made quick work inducing two flies and a grounder.
o In the sixth inning, Adam Jones went yard to take the lead for the Orioles which they held into the top of the ninth. It was Jones' second of spring training.
o RHP Matt Lindstrom followed up with his own 1-2-3 inning in the seventh. Lindstrom challenged hitters hard by attacking the strike zone and forcing the Blue Jays to swing at bad pitches to get through the inning.
o Trouble didn't start for the Orioles until the ninth when Pedro Strop came out to pitch. He hadn't allowed a run in his last four outings this spring, but that would change quickly. Strop gave up two singles and a walk to start the inning. The Jays tied it up with a sacrifice fly. Strop's trouble wouldn't end there, on the following play Strop would botch a play at the plate with a toss over the head of catcher Ronny Paulino that allowed the go ahead run. The Jays went on to score again in the inning, but the lone score would be enough to put them over the top and would be an end to Strop's day.
o Buck Britton tried to keep the Os alive with a single to start the ninth, but they couldn't rally any more support on the day.
o The loss brings the Orioles to 6-9-4 in spring training. They are 2-5-2 against the AL East.
o Despite the disappointing ninth the Orioles still have a lot too look forward to from some of the offseason additions like Endy Chavez, Luis Ayala and Matt Lindstrom who all played solid. Tommy Hunter also had a promising season debut which will be very important to the Os rotation this season.
