Orioles Minor League Camp Recap- 3/21

The Orioles low Class A team dropped a 5-4 contest to the Rays on Wednesday.

o In a low Class A baseball game in Sarasota, the Orioles lost to the Rays Wednesday 5-4.

o The Orioles scored all of their runs in the 7th. It started when Hector Veloz had a bases loaded walk to drive in Vincent Zazueta. Chris Clinton then drove in Gabriel Lino with a single to center. The Orioles scored their last two runs on a Austin Knight grounder to center that scored Doug Bream and Hector Veloz.

o The Orioles twice had base running issues getting tagged out trying to go for extra bases.

o The Rays had 2 stolen bases. The first was on a dropped pitch by the Catcher Austin Knight which allowed the runner on first to advance to second. The second was a late throw to third by Knight.

o Starter Louico Williams gave up 3 hits, a run, and a walk but with 3 strikeouts in 2 innings.

o RHP Sebastian Vader did not give up a hit and recorded a strikeout while retiring the side. He pitched a total of in 2 innings.

o LHP Cameron Roth had a rough outing. In two innings of work, he gave up 5 hits, a run, and a full count walk but did have a strikeout.

o RHP Jose Mota allowed 2 runs off 3 hits in one inning.

o RHP Douglas Ferguson 3 hits a run and a walk but a strikeout.

o RHP Joshua Worrell gave up two back to back hits but recovered with 3 consecutive outs including 2 strikeouts in his inning of work.

o RHP Ryan Palsha gave up a hit and a strikeout.

o Austin Knight had hit a 2 RBI single to center in his only plate appearance.

o Chris Clinton had a RBI hit.

o Gabriel Lino had 2 hits including a full count double and a run scored.

o Vincent Zazueta had a hit a walk and a un

o Hector Veloz got a bases loaded walk which drove in a run. He was eventually driven home by Austin Knight.

o Doug Bream had a 4 pitch walk and a run.

o Thomas Winegarter had a full count stand-up double.

o Tanner Murphy hit a double as did Joe Velleggia who was eventually caught in run down.

o Manuel Hernandez and Roderick Bernadina had a hit each.

o Cameron Edman had a walk and got on base again with a hit by pitch.

o Manager Gary Allenson said the base running was a problem. He said, “We made a lot of base running mistakes today. It's alright to be aggressive on the bases but you got to be smart when you do that.”

o Allenson thought that the pitching did well. He said, “Pitching did a pretty good job. We had a guy give up some hits but overall a pretty good job.”
