Orioles Minor League Camp Notes- 3/26

ITO was on hand Monday to watch the O's High-A team take on Tampa.

o In a Class High A baseball game in Sarasota, the Orioles lost to the Rays 9-2 Monday.

o The Orioles bats were quiet today getting only 6 hits and 2 runs

o Austin Knight hit a solo home run over the right field wall on a 2 strike pitch in the 9th in his only at-bat of the game.

o Tyler Kolodny hit a triple and scored a run when he was driven in by Michael Mosby on a first pitch single to center.

o Chris Clinton hit a double in the fourth and Mychal Givens and Justin Dalles also had hits. Kipp Shultz was walked in the fourth.

o Joe Oliveira threw out a runner trying to steal 3rd in the 3rd inning but allowed a runner to advance to 2nd on a dropped pitch in the 4th inning.

o Starter Kevin Gregg had some trouble but managed to contain the damage. He gave up a hit on the first pitch of the game on a fastball hit to left field. After a pop out, Gregg gave up another hit on a line drive to right. The next batter drove in a run on a ground rule double hit to left. Gregg did not get discouraged. The next play, a full count fastball was grounded straight to Gregg. he made a heads up play and tossed the ball to home plate in time to get the man on third out at the plate to save a run. He forced the next batter to pop out to end the inning allowing only the one run to score. In his second of two innings pitched, he gave up a stand up double which was the only hit of the inning as he forced the next 2 batters to ground out.

o Parker Birdwell pitched well getting a strikeout but allowing one hit in 2 innings of work. Two of the batters he faced did get on base by poor fielding. In the third inning Shortstop Christopher Tremblay and Centerfielder Jeremy Nowak collided on a routine pop fly which allowed the batter to reach first. In the fourth. Right Fielder Tyler Kolodny missed a sliding catch on a pop up which also allowed the batter to reach base.

o LHP Nathan Moreau had trouble in his appearance Monday. He came in the game in the fifth inning and got the first batter he faced to groundout. However, he allowed the next four batters to reach base which started on a 2-2 single to left. After a one pitch hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch to advance the runners to second and third, the next batter hit a single to right which scored both runners. With a runner on first, Moreau gave up another RBI single on a 2-2 pitch hit to center. He managed to get the next two batters to ground out to get out of the inning and had a 1-2-3 6th inning but his troubles weren't done yet. When he came out for the seventh 9 of his first 13 pitches were balls which accounted for a four pitch walk, a 3-1 walk and a 3-1 double to center which scored a run. The next 2 batter each hit RBI singles. He forced a pop out to left for only the second out of the but what turned out to be the last out on the inning. After a RBI single to left, a full count walk and a bases loaded hit by pitch both teams decided to end the inning. Moreau Came out to pitch the 8th but after the first two batters were walked on 9 pitches he was pulled for RHP Jacob Cowan. He threw 70 pitches and gave up 8 run against 21 batters faced.

o RHP Cowan came in for relief for Moreau with 2 batters on base but they didn't advance due to Cowan's 2 strikeouts and full count pop out to end the inning. He pitched the 9th and got the first 2 batters to pop out and got a strikeout to end his day. He threw 27 pitches and retired every batter faced.
