News and Notes on Andino, Wieters, Chen, Johnson and others.

Bell,Josh (Baltimore Orioles) (4/10/2012)

----------------------------------------------------------

3B Josh Bell started in right field for Class AAA Norfolk on Tuesday, and he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, lowering his average to .105. Bell, 25, has become sort of an odd man out with the Orioles after he was one of the club's top prospects the past three years.

Reynolds,Mark (Baltimore Orioles) (4/10/2012)

----------------------------------------------------------

3B Mark Reynolds will win the Orioles some games with his bat, but his glove cost them dearly Tuesday. An error with two outs in the sixth inning kept the Yankees' inning alive and allowed two runs to score. He went 0-for-4 with a walk and three strikeouts.

Lindstrom,Matt (Baltimore Orioles) (4/10/2012)

----------------------------------------------------------

RHP Matt Lindstrom set up a run of solid innings from Orioles relievers. He got to final out in the sixth and tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings total, striking out two and allowing one hit on 25 pitches. RHPs Luis Ayala and Jim Johnson and LHP Troy Patton were strong in holding the Yankees to three hits and no walks in the eighth, ninth and 10th innings.

Wieters,Matt (Baltimore Orioles) (4/10/2012)

----------------------------------------------------------

C Matt Wieters will get a day off in Toronto, manager Buck Showalter said Tuesday. Wieters will sit either Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon. He went 1-for-4 on Tuesday.

Johnson,Nick (Baltimore Orioles) (4/10/2012)

----------------------------------------------------------

1B/DH Nick Johnson is still seeking his first hit. Johnson is 0-for-9 in three games, including an 0-for-3 night Tuesday before he was replaced. Johnson offers a veteran presence in the clubhouse and on the field, but he'll have to improve his numbers in order to stick. The Orioles don't have an everyday designated hitter, so Johnson will see at bats there.

Andino,Robert (Baltimore Orioles) (4/10/2012)

----------------------------------------------------------

2B Robert Andino and Yankees C Russell Martin exchanged words following Monday's game. Martin accused Andino of trying to tip pitches while Andino was on second base following a ninth-inning double; Andino denied the charge. Manager Buck Showalter wasn't overly concerned about the incident. "Boys being boys," Showalter said. "Nothing big." Four batters were hit by pitches in Tuesday's game, none of them Andino.

Chen,Wei-Yin (Baltimore Orioles) (4/10/2012)

----------------------------------------------------------

LHP Wei-Yin Chen's major league career couldn't have started worse. However, after surrendering a leadoff homer to Derek Jeter, the Taiwanese lefty settled in and got to work. Chen lasted 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (two earned). He struck out six and walked just one, scattering seven hits while throwing 101 pitches.

Ultimately, Chen could only watch as the Baltimore defense allowed the Yankees back into a game that New York would eventually win 5-4 in 12 innings.
