Draft Q&A: 34th Rd. Pick Kyle Touchatt
MLB Draft
ITW Correspondent
Posted Jul 5, 2007

Kyle Touchatt was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 34th round after his senior season at Wichita State. Inside, Kyle dishes about his repertoire, his expectations on draft day and more.

ITW: Who are you represented by?

Kyle Touchatt: No, I am not.

ITW: Did you know the Orioles were interested in you?

Kyle Touchatt: I kind of did. They gave me a call, so I knew that they had some interest in me.

ITW: Who did you grow up rooting for in the major leagues?

Kyle Touchatt: I rooted for the Royals because I was a home-town guy, and the Braves.

ITW: Do you model your game after anybody?

Kyle Touchatt: No. I’m a believer in that everybody is different, and everyone is their own person and everybody does what they do. I don’t say I’m like any one particular guy.

ITW: What do you throw? What pitches and at what velocities?

Kyle Touchatt: Fastball, two-seam fastball and four-seam fastball, slider and changeup. My fastball is around 88-91 [MPH], my slider is 78-81 [MPH], and I think my changeup is right around 80 MPH.

ITW: What would you say is your out pitch?

Kyle Touchatt: It depends if they’re right-handed or left-handed. Against righties, I like to throw the fastball a lot, fastball and slider. Against lefties, probably my fastball, slider as a strikeout pitch, changeup every now-and-then.

ITW: What part of your game have you improved the most since coming to college?

Kyle Touchatt: Definitely this year, my senior year, I had my best year statistically and everything. I made the most ground, especially from my junior year to my senior year.

ITW: Has anyone from the organization contacted you yet? What did they tell you?

Kyle Touchatt: Yeah, they contacted me. They pretty much let me know that I’m going to be heading out on Sunday and that there are a few places that I could be going, but they’re not sure yet.
