Orioles News and Notes 5/23

Updates on Jones, Roberts, Arrieta, Johnson and more.

Jones,Adam (Baltimore Orioles) (5/23/2012)

----------------------------------------------------------

CF Adam Jones extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the third inning off Red Sox starter Daniel Bard. That's the longest streak for an Oriole so far this season.

Roberts,Brian (Baltimore Orioles) (5/23/2012)

----------------------------------------------------------

2B Brian Roberts (concussion) drew walks in both plate appearances during his first rehab game for Class AA Bowie on Wednesday.

He came out of the game after playing three innings in the field.

Roberts has been out for just over a year due to problems from a concussion he suffered last May. Roberts gets 20 days in rehab and he said Tuesday he'll probably use all of them.

Arrieta,Jake (Baltimore Orioles) (5/23/2012)

----------------------------------------------------------

RHP Jake Arrieta continued his inconsistent work. He struck out nine and gave up just one run in his last start (against the Nationals) but allowed four runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings in Thursday's 6-5 loss to Boston, falling to 2-5 on the season.

Johnson,Nick (Baltimore Orioles) (5/23/2012)

----------------------------------------------------------

1B Nick Johnson continued his hot hitting by belting a pair of home runs in the loss. Johnson is hitting .364 (8-for-22) in his last 10 games after a very slow start. But he struck out to end an eighth-inning threat as the Orioles tried to rally.

Betemit,Wilson (Baltimore Orioles) (5/23/2012)

----------------------------------------------------------

3B Wilson Betemit drove in the team's final run on sacrifice fly in the eighth. But it could have been more. Red Sox RF Che-Hsuan Lin made a diving catch of the short fly ball that would have tied the game if it landed since CF Adam Jones was on second.

Avery,Xavier (Baltimore Orioles) (5/23/2012)

----------------------------------------------------------

LF Xavier Avery continued to make a good impression in his first days with the Orioles. He went 2-for-5 to improve his average to .273 -- and also got his first assist, throwing to SS Robert Andino, who threw out Kevin Youkilis at the plate.
