Tyler Townsend Injury Update

Tyler Townsend was supposed to come to the Orioles with a big bat, but everything will have to be put on hold. He suffered a left wrist injury and has been out for more than a week. Inside get the scoop on his status.

Tyler Townsend, the Orioles' third-round pick (85th overall) in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft and IronBirds first baseman, is out with an unspecified left wrist injury and has not played since July 15.

After the IronBirds' Thursday night 5-4 victory over the Hudson Valley Renegades, manager Gary Kendall said Townsend is still "day-to-day."

"It's not a DL situation, but it's something we don't want to rush him back from, so when he comes back, we want him to be 100 percent," Kendall said.

Townsend was unavailable to comment about the injury following the game; the IronBirds training staff did not want him talking about his injury. Kendall did mention that Townsend has not been taking batting practice since the injury, but they are hoping to get him swinging in the near future.

"We are hoping that, maybe during this road trip, he can do some tee work, so after the tee work it's going to be a little while," Kendall told Inside The O's.

With just 43 games remaining in the IronBirds' season, there will not be much time for him to find his swing. Since joining the team, he has struggled, hitting just .148 (8-54) with one home run and six RBI's. In his final collegiate year, he hit .434, .slugged .858, hit 24 home runs and drove in 77 runs in 54 games as a junior at Florida International University.
